Calvary Chapel of Phelan Celebrates 20 Years in Phelan!
7/13/2008
Beginning in 1980, as a home fellowship in Wrightwood, the fellowship grew quickly and had to relocate to Phelan to accommodate their new growth. In 1981, the fellowship began to meet on Sunday mornings as Higher Ground Christian Fellowship. The Lord continued to bless the church and in 1988, a new Senior Pastor was hired and the name Higher Ground Christian Fellowship was changed to Calvary Chapel of Phelan!

Since that time in 1988, one Sunday morning service has grown into three Sunday morning services, a Thursday evening mid-week service and many, many other outreaching ministries too numerous to name!

God is good!

It has been a privilege and an honor to serve the community of Phelan, reaching out as a family of believers with a hunger for God’s Word, and a heart to reach our world.

Summer Marriage Fellowship
7/2/2008
The turnout was great for the July Marriage Fellowship BBQ! We were happy to see the many new faces, as well as the regular attendees, joining us for this special time of fellowship. The weather was hot and the food even hotter! We meet again, July 20th, at 3:00PM, at the home of Jim and Shawnna Andersen and invite all married couples to join us for a potluck of side and dessert dishes to join the BBQ’d chicken entrée that will be provided!

Women’s Summer Study
6/17/2008
Do you have a regular prayer time?
Is praying the first thing you think of in times of trouble, or a 'last resort'?
Do you really believe that God is listening when you pray?

We all know how important prayer is in our daily lives, yet most of us have a desire to see our prayer life grow into something more than it is now. Please join us on Tuesday nights at 7:00PM beginning July 15 as we learn practical ways to cultivate that desire, turning it from a desire to a reality.

Seasoned Saints Celebrate
3/27/2008
Our Seasoned Saints, a ministry for folks 50 years and better, gather together on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month for fellowship and the study of God’s Word. We also like to get together for extracurricular activities and this month we surprised one of our own with a Route 66-themed birthday party. On Saturday, March 22 at the Wrightwood Community Building we definitely surprised Barbara Crosley by celebrating her 66th birthday Route 66-style! The food was catered, we enjoyed hot dogs, potato salad, soda pop and of course birthday cake and ice cream! We also played Route 66 trivia games, and prizes were awarded to those who knew their stuff! If you are 50 years or better and would like information on our ministry, contact Michael Gonzalez, 868-1191.

New Pastor at CCAV
1/1/2008
Pastor Gary Malkus, assistant pastor, and administrator for Calvary Chapel of Phelan for eighteen years, has taken the position of Pastor of Calvary Chapel of Apple Valley. The church family at Calvary Phelan was excited and saddened at the news of Gary, and his wife Danielle, moving on in ministry and becoming the Pastor in Apple Valley, but the Lord has great things in store for the Malkus’.

The church family at Phelan will miss them greatly. Gary’s parents, Ed and Lona Malkus, made the move with them and will be assisting them as the Lord leads.

Annual Church Picnic & Baptism
10/12/2007
Our Annual Church Picnic and Baptism was held on Sunday, September 9. Usually we meet at Wrightwood Country Club, but this time we gathered together at Ginger’s Ranch in Phelan, a beautiful 10 acre spread with plenty of shade and grass for relaxing and picnicking. This year was a little different, not just with the change in location, but we had a “fish fry” as well, with fish being provided by folks in the fellowship that had a very rewarding fishing trip. And the fish was amazing!

In addition to the change in location and the fish fry, we really changed things up with the baptism taking place in a swimming pool instead of the lake. The water was a lot warmer, to say the least, and the baptism was a total blessing! To see people follow the Lord Jesus Christ in baptism, both young and old is unforgettable. Jesus Christ was truly glorified that day in the lives of all those who were obedient to follow after the Lord in baptism, and it was a great time as the brethren came together in true fellowship.

2007 Women’s Retreat
4/12/2007
“A Woman of Worship” was this year’s theme for our ladies retreat. As 135 women settled in for a weekend with the Lord, we were all blessed with wonderful weather, wonderful worship with Peggy Crawford, wonderful teaching and wonderful fellowship! Not only were we able to satisfy our physical hunger with the delicious meals prepared by the conference center staff, we were also able to satisfy our hungry “appetite” for God by sitting at His feet and searching His Word.

HUNDREDS RECEIVE JESUS AS SAVIOR
3/27/2007
It was a tremendous opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus with hundreds of hungry people, and God honored the team’s willingness to speak the truth of the Word of God into the hearts of the people of Colombia.

The medical mission to Cartagena, Colombia, sponsored by Gospel for the Americas, was an exciting, and very profitable trip for the kingdom of God.

In early March, nine people from Northern California, Southern California, and North Carolina, landed in Cartagena not knowing what God had in store for them. What He had was a fruitful week of evangelism, and ministry to hundreds of men, women, and children. The team of one doctor, along with two doctors from Cartagena, two dentists, and two pastors, and handful of folks ready to labor for the Lord, held four medical clinics in the Cartagena area. Over 400 people were seen in the medical and dental clinics, and over 250 pairs of reading glasses were given to people who were tested and found in need of glasses.

That was exciting!

Then, the real fruit came. After each patient was seen, Dr Gabe Galofre, the founder and president of Gospel for the Americas, along with members of the team, shared the gospel with each of the patients. Through the week, at the four clinics, and on the streets, and in the shops, and restaurants of the city, over 200 people prayed to receive Jesus as their savior.

Praise the Lord, what a time of rejoicing the angels are having in Heaven.

The ministry of GFTA is planning another missions trip to Colombia on June 8, if you are interested in joining the team, call the church office (760-868-5102) and ask for Pastor Larry.

2006 Women's Christmas Brunch
12/19/2006
Our Women’s Christmas Brunch was held on December 2, 2006. This annual event gives the women in our fellowship an opportunity to spend time with old friends, make some new friends, do some Christmas shopping at the B.L.O.S.S.O.M. Craft Fair, and just enjoy the day before the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season begins. Each year volunteers decorate a table the night before, and then serve the guests seated at their table the day of the brunch. “Come Let Us Adore Him” was the theme this year and our volunteer hostesses did an awesome job of creating centerpieces that reflected that theme. Annie Meadows, our guest musician and speaker, blessed us with her God-given musical talent and shared a beautiful message of hope through God’s Word. We look forward in anticipation to what God has in store for next year and we hope you will join us!

BLOSSOM Craft Fair
12/15/2006
We just finished our 7th annual BLOSSOM Craft Fair and as with each one, the Lord blessed it abundantly.

B.L.O.S.S.O.M. (Blessed Laborers Offering Service to Support Outreaching Missionaries) is a ministry with the purpose of providing Christians an opportunity to serve the Lord by using their gifts and talents to help raise support for missionaries serving on the foreign field. Every year we host a Craft Fair in conjunction with our annual Women’s Christmas Brunch. The women get the chance to shop for some amazing handcrafted items while all of the monies they spend go directly to support our brothers and sisters serving on the mission field. What a blessing for everyone all the way around!

This year we had an abundance of beautiful crafts, homemade baked goods, international crafts from Peru, Ecuador, and Russia, and many miscellaneous items, all donated to the cause. One item that stood out was a child-sized rocking chair with attached doll cradle that a grandpa handcrafted, it was just beautiful.

The income from the craft fair exceeded previous years by $600...the Lord is so good.

2006 Men's Retreat
12/8/2006
This year's Men Retreat was special for several reasons: great weather, Spirit filled teaching, many father and sons attending together, and a healing time for many, if not all. Calvary Chapel Apple Valley’s worship team and our own Steve Hamiliton did a great job in leading worship, and capping it off was special guest worship leader, John Lord. On top of this we continued to have some of the best food at any camp. The only thing missing was you! Don't miss this special time next year; November 16-18, 2007. Put it on your schedule now.
