Words to the Wise

Set your mind on things above,
not on things on the earth.  Colossians 3:2

Satan is really good at his job!  He should be, he has been doing it for thousands of years.  His ‘job’ is destroying lives, and he is hot on your trail.  One of his favorite tools for destroying lives is lying to people; convincing them of things that are not true, so that they will chase after something that will never satisfy them.

Discouragement is one of his favorites, too.  He lies to us, to discourage us and cause us to desire things of this world that will disappear from in front of us like smoke.  So Paul tells us, as he told the Colossians, to look “up,” not around us, for true satisfaction.

There is nothing wrong with having the ‘good things’ of life, like a nice home, a nice car, clothes, and even money or fame, as long as they are not the motive of our lives.  None of these things will ever fill the void that is in our lives.  But, God gives us complete fulfillment in life!  The Word tells us to be content with what we have, to seek Him above all things, and He will supply our needs, and even some of our ‘wants’.  Isn’t God good?

Resting in the love of Jesus,
Pastor Larry
